EL - ALL BLACK FT PAPPY KOJO & JOEY B | REVIEW

You can't ever say enough when it comes to the skillionaires and GH hip hop. This article is about this particular track on the BAR 2 album ALL BLACK featuring Joey B and Pappy Kojo, two of Ghana's most trending celebrities and produced by Drum Roll. This is the first from the album I've heard and i can't even stand straight when i hear it being played, seriously i can't wait for the full album.

To the issue on board now, this is a review of the ALL BLACK soundtrack which i'm going to try the impossible best to explain, compositions by the man himself Elorm Adablah can't be fully comprehended so take this as my attempt. I'm going to start my dissection from the track's concept, down to the structure, and then to the lyrical content.
THE CONCEPT

The concept of ALL BLACK is one that is quite deep but very easy to understand, even the title of the track can give you a rough idea of what the song is about. Until now, in Ghana, people used to wear black when someone dear to them had kicked the bucket, so black is quite a sober color in the Ghanaian society. Black also symbolizes evil. Therefore the concepts of this track is murder, bitterness, disgust, remorselessness and hate. From the hook of the track "make a ni**er come try next day i go be in all black,...., and if you really wanna RIP no p i go be in all black" it is evident that the track is a warning to other people to stay off.

THE STRUCTURE

This song is quite different from any hip hop song I've heard in the country. Instead of the normal trend where there is a hook and then the rappers go on with a verse this track has the individual rappers do something like a personal hook after their rap.

On the track EL raps first followed by Pappy Kojo and then Joey B. Everything about the song is fascinating, from the cowboy type hip hop beat all the way down to the backing. The song is a masterpiece. Below are the personal hooks from the rappers.

EL's personal hook after his verse - "And i'm never gonna say good bye, never gonna say good bye... see I've never been afraid to fly E.L i go dey for life.... and i"m never gonna say good bye, never gonna say good bye... See I've never been afraid to die but I've never felt so alive"

Pappy Kojo's hook translated - "They are afraid of me so they don't come out, it's burning inside their head make it puncture, Takoradi executioner, they should be sympathized, i throw it on them the others pour it"

Joey B's personal hook- "Here we go"

personally i love Joey B's hook, it's so out of the world, very simple but he adds complexity just by talking whiles the hook plays in the background. So this is it for the structure.

THE LYRICAL CONTENT

The song contains three different people with three different styles of rap.

EL

EL, in his verse, generally talk about how he has metamorphosed, that he doesn't understand why he's been so blessed because it seemed he had no hope of making it but now it is his time. He also makes use of some serious metaphors like "my mama wanna see her son shine, that is why i rain on y'all ni**gers one time", what he's trying to say is his mother want to see him shine so he pours torment on the other people doing what he does to achieve that, because in order for the sun to shine the rain must fall. Crazy!! ain't it. He also uses the proverb a good name is better than riches in another way "The money and the fame they don't mean nothing, if you no get good name you dey run blind". Very excellent lyrics.

PAPPY KOJO

Pappy Kojo also takes the next verse with the fante flow. His tone is quite angry and he talks about how his haters bluffed but weren't able to harm him and now he's up there and they should all start running for their lives.I love the flow and the "Yi wo dross "

JOEY B

Joey uses his real style of rap in this song, lately he had been rapping with the local dialect, which i think is because he wanted to do something Ghanaians could follow but he switches back on this track and he does very great in nailing it. He goes a little fictional talking about how a demon dared him the other day that he couldn't do anything with a gun and that he was just a little Mary Jane in Ran away (watch the video here). His verse is quite narrative, and he continues to give the demon facts that nobody should try him because the "next thing they know, caskets closed funeral service" he also says he's been to hell and back again and that it was in Mallow Way. Mad!! A lot of people wouldn't really understand, but it is dope anyway and i like it.

Out of five stars i'll give this track all the 5 and go and look for another one to add to it. Nice track, this is what Ghanaians are looking for. Not some expensive international features which is not even nice, some musicians aren't real entrepreneurs at all they have to go and see my brother EL. Thanks for reading.
